The Mixdown Radio Show

 If you ask Maz how he got started in the music business and continues to be involved in the urban music industry in Canada he would simply put it “Since as far back as I can remember I have been in love with music, and always knew that I would contribute something to the industry because of my simple love & respect for the music and arts”. At the age of seventeen the hustler already came out in Maz. He began throwing house parties and getting other DJ’s to play at those parties, Maz would go ahead and charge people at the door to get into his parents house for these parties and would pay local DJ’s to come threw and spin. Maz was quickly known for his house parties and he quickly switched to playing the music at his own parties to keep more profit from the parties and just have one other DJ there to help hold him down. Maz always got Fredericton’s most respected DJ. His name is MASTER MIXX D. From there is where Maz says everything changed for him, “I was always throwing the parties just to be known as the guy who threw sick  parties and no one else had dj’s at their house parties back then.” “But then after having the power to make people move I realized the power that music really has in everyone’s life I have surrounded myself with music ever since.” From there on he quickly got a job at a local disc jockey service. Maz quickly began working every type of function you could imagine from weddings, Christmas and birthday parties to corporate events to even country music ho-downs. When turning nineteen Maz began working as a disc jockey in the local club scene and continued to work for the disc jockey company while holding down a fulltime day job. After years of working in the clubs and holding down a nine to five Maz decided that he had gone as far as he could reaching people in the same clubs and same events so quickly realized that it was time for something bigger to make his mark.

DJ Maz and his friend Dwight “Master Mixx D” Talbot then got a two hour hip hop mix show on a brand new radio station called CKTP that started in Fredericton, NB. Maz and Master Mixx D continued their show on the station and within one year DJ Maz and Master Mixx D had two evening weekly mix shows and DJ Maz had his own late morning show entitled the Drip Set, where Maz would showcase strictly R&B music and the program director of the station quickly appointed MAZ as music director of the radio station. Dwayne “ DJ Slim” Marcial  was hired on as Program Director and DJ for CKTP then quickly became a part of all the mix shows Maz and Master Mixx D had and went on to hold down his own shows as well as the afternoon spot on the station. Maz, DJ $lim and Master Mixx D quickly brought their popular radio shows to a collage radio station in Saint John, NB.  Since then DJ Maz and DJ $lIm have come together to create a whole new show and continued to expand their radio shows to over eleven different stations throughout Canada and becoming the first urban radio show syndicated throughout Canada

Over the last twelve years of his life Maz has fought relentlessly along with his music partner and friend DJ $lim, to bring the culture and sound of Urban Music to Atlantic Canada.  Maz has had the opportunity to participate is such concerts as 50 Cent and G-Unit, The Game, Carl Henry, Sean Desmond, Kardinal Offishall, Ro Dolla, Blackjay’s, Choclair, Sky Sweetnam, and many  more. In the summer of 2006 Maz & DJ $lim had the opportunity to DJ and MC the NBA 3 on 3 Basket Ball Tournament and various other events and have been the Atlantic DJ’s for the NBA event ever since. MAZ has also judged for Canada’s JUNO Awards for best Rap Recording of the year as well as a judge for the ECMA. When Maz was asked about the Juno’s and ECMA judging request he was very quick to reply “I am so excited and honored about these opportunities the Juno’s and ECMA have presented me with. It just comes to show it doesn’t matter if your from the T Dot, Van City or Halifax it’s all about hard work and dedication to the game and over the past 12 years I have proven both to everyone and it feels really good to get recognition from your peers in the Industry for my contributions to the urban music industry here in Canada””
